Overview

Introducing the Phantom 97P! With this racquet Prince adds a 97 square inch model to the Phantom family. Intermediate and advanced players looking for speed, spin and control should love this one. Like other members of the Phantom series, this stick blends pinpoint accuracy with arm-friendly comfort. At over 11.5 ounces strung, the Phantom 97P feels solid against pace, but it also packs a 320 RDC swingweight, making it one of the faster and more maneuverable racquets in its class. This racquet's signature technology is an Anti-Torque System which features Textreme and Twaron in both the shaft and at 10 and 2 o'clock in the racquet's head. The result is less racquet torque at impact, resulting in a more stable and powerful hitting experience. Like other members of the Phantom series, this stick's great feel comes partly from the CTS Beam, which features an ultra thin 16.5mm shaft. Factor in the 58 RA stiffness and you have a racquet with exceptional ball feedback.  From the baseline, the 97P pairs mindless precision with surprising speed and impressive comfort. The easy acceleration and open 16x18 string pattern provides the recipe for bringing the ball down hard. At net the 97P comes around fast to deliver impressive feel and touch. This stick also performs great on serve where it whips powerfully through contact to deliver extremely easy targeting. All in all, this is a very impressive addition to the Phantom series. Player's looking for classic control and modern speed should add this to their demo list. The outstanding feel at impact is a nice bonus.

Comments: Been hitting with the Phantom 97P for about 3 weeks since changing from the Pure Strike (V2) due to arm soreness issues after demo'ing the Prince Tour 95, Beast 98 & Phantom 93P. I'm loving the 97P racquet, feels like it was made for my flatter style hitting game from the back court.  I was a bit concerned about the 16x19 string pattern but it plays like an 18x20 as the string pattern is reasonably dense in the middle of the hitting area.  Control orientated, soft feel, low powered racquet.  I'm not a BIG server so when serving I'm looking for accuracy of serve placement with reasonable amount of spin to control.  The 97P puts the ball where you want/aim it to go.  Really easy to serve with due to the 8pts HL balance. Same at the net. The 97P has great feel and for a low powered/control frame it is very much a 'Point & Shoot' racquet at net. The Pure Strike (Project One7) was the best racquet I've used until I fell in love with the 97P.  If you've got a flatter hitting, attack the net, all court style game then I'd highly recommend Demo'ing the Prince Phantom range of racquets.  In fact all the new Prince frames are really nice frames.  I also bought the Tour 95 to Coach with & the Beast 98 for my partner who was using the Pure Drive but getting arm soreness. I saw a You Tube review on the 97P where the reviewer said "This IS a racquet, this is THE racquet" & I agree the 97P is a fantastic frame in the right hands. PRINCE is back :-)
