Overview

If you're looking for shoes that meet the demands of your footwork and will turn heads on the court, the Vapor Cage 4 is for you. It perfectly blends two of Nike's most popular tennis shoes. Engineered and designed for one of the best movers on tour (vamos Rafa!), these shoes will meet the standards of players who crave serious support, enhanced stability, ridiculous levels of responsiveness and maximum durability. A Zoom Air unit in the forefoot offers players more energy as they spring into their next shot. Hard court sliders will appreciate how the outsole has been integrated into the upper where aggressive movers need it most for enhanced durability. Foot frame technology increases stability and reaction time, and in case you needed another reason to get these shoes on your feet. Players of all levels who need support and can be hard on their shoes will want to look here before gravitating toward lighter, less durable options.
  • Upper: Unique lacing system wraps around your feet for support and is hidden for durability. Breathable, supportive upper hugs feet for step-in comfort.
  • Midsole: Zoom Air unit in the forefoot for more energy and a responsive, springy feel. Lateral foot frame helps with stability and responsiveness.
  • Outsole: Generative design blends rubber and Kurim for extra durability where needed.
  • Colour: White / Red/ Blue

Comments: Love this shoe for comfort and it perfectly fits my feet. So far, I am using Nikes for indoor and adidas for outdoor. As adidas wears away, I'll stick to Nike's, but comfort and perfect size come with a price.

Comments: I found these shoes when my coach, recent graduate from University of Illinois, recommended them. He is really fast and churns through shoes constantly because he spends six to eight hours a day on the court. I am a 4.5 to 5.0 level player that has tried every shoe such as the Barricades, Novaks, Vapors, Zoom GP Turbos, etcetera, and these are great for me. I am a big guy, at 6'2" 210 pounds, and they really feel good with excellent cushioning. I think some people may be struggling because of the fit. They run really big, so make sure you get a size smaller than you typically buy in Nike. I wear a size 12 in Vapors or Zoom GP Turbos, so I had to return the 12 and get an 11. They fit like a glove and I love them so far.

Comments: Well I read all the comments after buying these and I'm glad I did. I've owned almost every pair of aggressive shoes Nike has made. Court Ballistec 1 through 4, Cage 1 and 2, and some less aggressive models like the Vapor. To this day the Ballistic 4 shoes were the best for me. These shoes I feel is a good marriage of the Cage line and the Vapor line. I'm not sure what everyone is talking about stability with these, they do have rounded edges, but if your footwork is good that shouldn't bother you. Very durable which makes them heavy. Lacing system that really doesn't make since, but is manageable. Good traction. Overall if you liked the Ballistic line these are the closest that Nike have produced in years. If you like lighter shoes with a more stable feel, try something else.

Comments: These are very good shoes, a more thick and heavy version of the Cage 3s they replaced. They added the term Vapor in here as to merge the two lines, the Cages and the Vapors, the Nadal and Federer shoes respectively. These are nothing like Vapors, they are more like Cages meet adidas Barricade; heavier, more sturdy, more durable. I preferred the Cage 3, but these shoes are good too and I've had I think four pairs. One downside for me is that my right foot slips out of the back of the right shoe. Could just be me. That aside, these are solid shoes that are heavy as far as Nike is concerned, but makes up for it with stability and durability. Comfort is very good. I still prefer its predecessor, the Nike Cage 3 as that fit like a glove, was true to Nike and the Cage and its preceding Breathe Free line in essence, looked sleek, felt fantastic, and was very durable. The only downside of the Cage 3 is that my fingers got rashes because to put on those tongueless shoes I had to insert my finger into them to fit the shoes on. My other friend had that same problem and I think he prefers these shoes. Solid shoes, with a tongue upgrade on the Cage 3, and upgrades on durability, stability, etcetera. Highly recommended. Six month warranty on top makes them a fantastic buy.

Comments: I wish these were just a touch lighter and maybe slightly lower to the ground, and definitely a little more breathability wouldn't hurt. All things that would help weight anyway. The lace system is definitely innovative, but it is somewhat lacking in the ability to really hold it's place. The laces want to open up a bit in the upper midfoot area.I notice the weight. The softer cushioned feel is nice in the sense you might think it's easier on the body this way, but is this really a great tennis shoe? I struggle to really know.

Comments: Half a size down worked great for me. I haven't enjoyed a pair of Nike tennis shoes as much since the Court Ballistec line or Breathe Cage series. It definitely took a few sessions to adjust to the fit, but once these are broken in they feel great. Support where I need it, good court feel, and the cushioning works. I have a medium to average foot and they hold my feet pretty well, not the best lock down in the heel, but I'm not sliding out of them either. The upper toe material isn't the most durable as I tend to drag my feet, but the outsole is built like a tank. I can see the outsole rubber lasting a very long time. My past previous favorites have included the Breathe Cage II, Ballistec 4.3, adidas Barricade V, and New Balance 1296, but this might be the one I stick with since the other models have been discontinued more or less. I value support and I feel like these shoes offer that and more. A little on the heavier side, but don't let that discourage you from trying these shoes out!

Comments: I am equivalent to a 5.0 player and am about to play in NCAA and I would say these have been some of my favorite shoes yet. I am a fast mover that likes to move around and slide around the court. My go-to shoes have always been Gel Resolutions, adidas Barricades, or SoleCourt Boosts, the recent ones are not as good. Unlike the current adidas SoleCourt Boosts, these shoes do not feel as heavy, and are just as durable and comfortable as well. There is a bit of toe-jam due to me going down a half size, but other than that these shoes are great. The curved outsoles are definitely something to get used to but after that, it's nearly perfect. The shoes also have great traction and have good give as well to control my sliding, which is something that was harder to control when I had Asics or my old favorite Nike Zoom Vapor 9.5 shoes. The durability guarantee is a great thing as well so I'm glad I moved back to Nike.

Comments: Heavy shoes and I love them. I intend to buy many pairs. light shoes are killing my feet and knees as you pay for their lightness one way or another. Thanks Nike.
From: Fernando, 2/9/20

Comments: to size for me. Extremely comfortable for me as I do wear insoles. Durability has been very good. Yes they are heavier, so what. Perfect for being on the courts all day. For matches, just wear something lighter. I am very pleased so far.
From: Seth, 27/8/20

Comments: After reading all the negative reviews on how this shoe is to heavy, the sizing issues and how people can't get their feet in, the insoles tearing etc. I didn't have any of those problems. Although normally I wear a size 10 shoe, I was able to fit the 9.5 comfortably. These shoes definitely provide the cushion and support as described and doesn't leave your feet aching or in pain after being on court for more than two hours. Great shoe overall.
From: Ray, 30/7/20

Comments: I really like theses shoes. They are true to size for me and very comfortable. I wore the previous version of these shoes and haven't noticed any huge weight difference. I also think the new look is great. I'll be sticking with these for sure
From: John, 16/6/20

Comments: Not sure why this shoe is getting a lot of negative reviews. I'm a tennis coach that teaches between 30-40 hours a week and I hit around a decent amount. After three weeks on the court with these I am pleasantly surprised. I had been wearing the Vapor 9 and 9.5 shoes for the last five years. I do use an insole, so I go up a half size. I don't think they are as heavy as other reviewers have made out to be. They are definitely bulkier than a traditional Vapor, but the upper tongue is very comfortable and the outer plastic is not a menace to your feet, as opposed to the Vapor X toe piece that digs into the top of your foot. I would love for there to be a clay court sole option, but the traction is still above average. So far so good, I like what Nike did with the low top basketball shoe feel with a tennis finish.
From: Jeremy, 7/6/20

Comments: My son wears a size 13 in Wilson and Babolat, but we wanted to try these. The size 13 was not generous. He could barely get his feet in. Returned and tried a size 14. Huge clown shoes that were way too big. Come on Nike, get the sizing right
From: Ken, 20/5/20

Comments: Over the past month I tried the Asics Novak. The upper material was too stiff for me and when moving aggressively I could feel the material folding in on itself on the upper toe area. was super annoying. I couldn't forget it any time they were on and had to get rid of them. Then tried the Asics Gel Resolution 8. I had high hopes for these. Super comfortable, feels like a soft running shoe. However, the heel slippage wasn't good, and to be honest, didn't give that feel of support. So you guessed it, I had to get rid of them. Tried the New Balance 996 v3. Great deal, but the fit was all wrong for me. They felt like a brick, so you guessed it, I had to get rid of them. I then tried the Yonex Eclipsion 3. I had high hopes for these. Because I loved the first version from four years ago. I loved these, but ironically some heel slippage. These probably would have worked in size 12.5, a half size smaller than my regular 13, but they don't make them. So you guessed it, I had to get rid of them. Finally I tried the Nike Air Zoom Vapor Cage 4. From the first slip on to my feet, they fit like a glove. The shoe encapsulates my entire foot perfectly, not one iota of heel slippage. Comfort is excellent and stability is off the charts. My friends, this is the perfect shoe. and they fit me perfectly in my regular size 13. So if you have any qualms about sizing, just order two pairs and return one. I can't tell you guys how happy I am with this shoe. It fits like a ski boot, I mean that in a good way, it just molded perfectly to my foot, absolutely no heel slippage even from the first lace up. Thanks TW and Nike. Five stars.

Comments: Coming from the Asics Gel Resolution 7. I didn't like the new Gel Resolution 8. It was too soft and too flexible. I like something a little more firm. I love these Vapor Cage 4's. The outsole feels more substantial and the upper gives me that locked in feel with just the right amount of give. I've always wanted to like Nike shoes because of the looks and now I finally can.
From: Drew, 18/2/20

Comments: Not sure about the majority of reviews on here. My feet are average width, arch, etc. and I found these shoes a massive improvement in comfort and fit over the Cage 3 version. The shoe is comfortable and supportive from the first wear. Second time on they went on really easily and the level of support is excellent. I also don't think they are too heavy as I normally wear Vapor X and didn't notice much difference. Yes, they do look slightly larger than others, but the aesthetics far outweigh this as they look the nuts. Took my normal size and a perfect fit.
From: Gavin, 30/1/20

Comments: The feedback from others is accurate, these shoes are flat-out bigger than any other Nike shoes I've had in the past. I've been a size 13 in Nikes for as far back as I can remember. I ordered a 12.5 and they fit fine. That wasn't the problem. The problem is that these shoes are almost impossible to tie tightly. They feel clunky, in fact they feel very much like the Cage 2. Unfortunately, those shoes were terrible in my opinion. The Cage 3s are some of the best tennis shoes I've ever had and I've been playing for 30 years. I bought six pairs of them over the past few years and was hoping for an incremental improvement. The Cage 4 is not it. I returned them one day after trying them on. Love the look, but they completely dropped the ball here.
From: Brian, 30/1/20

Comments: Hated these shoes, but wanted to like them due to the cool colors. These felt like bricks, no locked in feeling like the Zoom Zeros, these shoes are definitely for toe draggers and people who play short points. These are also way heavier than a lot of other shoe options out there. At least a half size larger than my Zoom Zero equivalent. They are not flexible even after a couple of hours on the clay. Big miss for me. If you want very durable shoes because you drag your feet, these are for you. If you're all about speed, these are not for you.
From: Justin, 16/1/20

Comments: I'm surprised that no one is talking about the fit. When TW says the length is generous, they mean it. Nike has me such that I don't even know what my "true to size" is anymore, but for a fit reference, I'm now wearing a 10.5 in the Cage 3, a 10 in Vapors, and I had to go to a 9.5 in the Cage 4s. I would say that the 9.5 Cage 4 is maybe 1/4 size smaller than a 10.5 Cage 3. I have a narrow foot with a high arch so sizing down has worked for me, but I don't know if it would for ever foot type. To wear three different sizes in three current Nike tennis shoes is a bit ridiculous. After about 30 minutes of hitting, they started to flex in the right ways and felt quite nice. I've only got one hour on the ball machine on them, but I predict that the next time I play that I will quickly stop thinking about what's on my feet, and I think I'm going to really feel good in them over the long-haul. They're well protected in all of the high wear areas, so I fully expect these to last as long or longer than anything else that you can buy. As far as looks go, if you're reading this then you have eyes; you don't need me to tell you how awesome these shoes look!
From: Andrew, 6/1/20

p>Comments: First impressions of these shoes and comparisons to the Cage 3s. The Vapor Cage 4 shoes are heavier than what I was expecting, especially compared to the Cage 3. These are very warm shoes, from the moment I put them on my feet were warm, and became almost uncomfortably hot, does not have near the same breathability as the Cage 3 shoes. Initially they were fairly comfortable, however, certain areas on the opposite side of the arch were digging into outside part of my foot. For all the people who complained that the Cage 3 shoes were too narrow, they made this shoe wider in the forefoot, for me there's too much room now. I like to have the snug feel of an athletic shoe supporting me without having my foot move around inside. These shoes feel fairly stable, still too early to say. It's too early for me to tell, but they seem to be a durable shoe like the Cage 3 shoes. This is a bulky looking and feeling shoe, my size 11 looked like a size 13, I felt like I had gorilla feet wearing these. Overall I am disappointed with these shoes, I was hoping the next generation of Cages were going to be even better than the previous version, but unfortunately Nike seems to be taking a basketball shoe approach to tennis shoes and the result is underwhelming to say the least..
From: Jason, 5/1/20

Comments: Very smart design. Everything about it is solid but the trade-off is weight. It's a pretty heavy shoe. Might not bother some people but it annoys me to have an extra quarter pound right at my feet. I'd be more excited about the shoe without the weight penalty. The tongue is tucked over the laces in a way that protects the laces from aggressive sliding. A very clever design and necessary for the reality aggressive movement from higher level players. Ultimately, I think this shoe is overbuilt and a little over-designed. The abrasive protection looks to be a somewhat heavy material and it wraps around the shoe in some places that are completely unnecessary for their objective purpose. I think it's a really cool shoe but I'm going to look for something else now. Really liked the Cage 3, it was a pretty minimalist shoe that kept things clean and simple in a pretty light package. This shoe is built like a lightweight tank and offers a few things I won't be using. I do slide on hard court, but not to the point my laces are in danger at the eyelet level, and unless you are I don't see much benefit to getting these over the last generation of Cages. Thank goodness there is still a six-month warranty though. Excited to see what the next Vapor Cage will be. These are too heavy for my taste.
From: Jay, 28/12/19

Comments: These look like very well designed and nicely made shoes. Plenty of durability and support features. My only problem with them is they are too tight in the forefoot area, ball of foot. I use the Zoom Zeros and love them. They are snug but just right. I returned them but I think these will be a great shoe for someone who fits them.
From: Mike, 20/12/19

Comments: Just got the Cage 4, first impression is great. Like the fit and the look. Big upgrade from the Cage 3. Hit for an hour, very comfortable. Movement was spot on. I have been wearing the Vapors for years but these are going to see a lot of court time. Give them a try, you will not be disappointed.
