Overview

With the Blade 98 18x20 v8, Wilson adds another chapter to one of the game’s best racquets for control and feel. At 11.4 ounces strung and boasting a beefy 325+ RDC swingweight, this Blade feels solid against pace. It also packs a traditional 18x20 string pattern along with a low 60-RA stiffness, giving it laser like targeting from the baseline and phenomenal touch at net.  For 2021 Wilson keeps the revolutionary layup technology that was originally used in the Blade v7 under the name FeelFlex. It’s now called FortyFive and, in addition to increasing stability, it helps the racquet bend in ways that compliment the modern game. For this update, Wilson also introduces Direct Connect Technology which fuses the butt cap directly to the carbon fiber portion of the handle for added stability. Additional updates include Wilson’s new Chameleon Paint which activates subtle color changes under different angles and light conditions. All in all, this version of the Blade 98 18x20 checks all the right boxes. Intermediate and advanced players looking for total command over the ball will love this one. The outstanding ball feedback is a nice bonus.

Comments: This is the best racquet that I have used in my 22 years. I was using many models/versions of the Babolat Pure Drive for many years and switching to Wilson Blade was a risk. After hitting with it for the first time, I know that this was a great racquet for baseliners that like powerful ground strokes, great control, and able to hit on the run without working too hard due to the flexibility of the racket. I definitely got the pop that was needed in my game with this racquet! I highly recommend this racquet.

Comments: Solid tennis racquet. Very good on ground strokes, very good on accuracy. I played with the Wilson RF97 Federer Autograph prior to this. I'm missing some power, but I'm appreciating the difference in maneuverability with the difference in weight. Striking has to be from a low point through the ball to get consistent power. Also very good on serve

Comments: This racquet seemed very solid. Even though TO does not rate it high in the power department, it seemed to have a good amount on groundies, but seemed to keep the ball in. You need to hit it fairly low and fairly fast. On serves it seemed solid. It is somewhat easy to move around for volleys, but not the easiest or lightest one.

Comments: This is a more traditional players racquet, so don't go comparing this to a Pure Aero VS or even the Ezone 98. I think it is very stable with some weight added to the frame. More responsive and less muted than the v7 and even the Ezone 98 but very comfortable. QC is pretty good on the frames I have. I just wish there was a little more free power - I think I will string really low the next time - maybe in the high 30s with my 4G

Comments: Super stable against hard hitter, & pin-point precision with nice feel. Not much more you can ask from a racket? Is it better than the V7? They are both excellent, in my opinion.
